About Us

Our business provides progressive preventative care as well as emergency services for horses, llamas, sheep, goats, and cattle. We also work with some reindeer and pet pigs. We offer the highest quality veterinary care available from a mobile service, and provide referrals for specialized medical, dental, surgical and complementary services. Our goals include offering the most effective preventative care and treatments, diligent attention to detail, dedication to service, and protection of animals from unnecessary suffering by allowing the owners, our clients, to choose the most humane management options within their means.

The office is located in Bayfield, Colorado, and all patients are seen at their own facilities. Service area extends into eastern La Plata and western Archuleta counties. The office location is not set up for animals to be examined or treated. Our mobile truck is equipped with water, refrigeration, and extensive supplies to handle most emergencies and all routine calls. We have portable X-ray and Ultrasound machines. We accept appointments Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are available for emergencies 24 hours a day, and there is an extra fee for after-hours service. In the event that our veterinarian is not available for an emergency, we will suggest alternative veterinarians.

Most of our patients are seen once or twice a year for routine checkups, vaccinations, and dental care. Some of our patients are seen more frequently for special uses: health certificates for travel, reproductive care, or maintenance treatments. We also see many emergencies which include gastrointestinal problems, parturition difficulties, injuries, or other serious illnesses. We also see animals with vaguer symptoms: weight loss, lameness, decreased performance or poor production. These cases are all challenging and the variety of what is seen every day makes the work interesting. Some owners enjoy trying to diagnose their animals ailments and do in-depth reading in veterinary manuals. Others are new to animals and will call the office with the preface “I’m not sure if this is a problem or not.” We enjoy working with animal owners of all levels of experience.
