Rotational Deworming Schedule for horses

This is our recommended rotational deworming schedule for an adult healthy horse in La Plata County.

November (one month after the first hard frost)- ivermectin

March- benzimidazole (consider 5 dose fenbendazole treatment-ask
    your veterinarian for details.)
May- pyrantel

July- ivermectin

September- benzimidazole

 

Brand name of products in each class
The ivermectin type medications include: Zimectrin, Eqvalan,
Quest, Equimectrin, and Rotectin 1
.

The benzimidazoles include: Anthelcide EQ, Cutter, Safeguard,
Benzelmin, Panacur

The pyrantals include: Strongid P, and Rotectin 2.

 **A word of caution: if you don’t wash the food out of your horses mouth, or you place the paste between his cheek and teeth, they will spit it out.

****Horses under  2yrs. should be dewormed monthly.
